Crusty Bread Rolls

Baking bread is the best kind of therapy, it’s always great for working out aggression and anxieties - and at the end of it, you get to eat fresh bread! With a crisp crust and fluffy insides, these rolls are perfect to have with soup, as a side to a salad, or just eaten warm with a large helping of melting butter. Delicious!

Ingredients

250g strong white bread flour

250g wholemeal bread flour

20g dried yeast

10g salt

1tsp sugar

50g softened butter

290ml lukewarm water

Method

  1. Put the yeast and sugar into the warm water - mix well and leave for 5 minutes to start to work.

  2. In a large bowl of food mixer with the bread hook attachment, put both flours, salt and butter - mix well. Add the yeast and water mix and combine. Knead for 5 minutes until soft and pliable. Place in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with cling film - leave in a warm place for an hour to rise so that it is doubled in size.

  3. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and divide into 12 equal pieces. Gently shape each piece into a ball and place onto a baking tray covered in parchment paper.

  4. Leave to rise for an hour - until doubled the size

  5. Preheat the oven to 220c.

  6. Place rolls in the oven and bake for 20 - 25 mins until hollow sounding when tapped.
